My Senior Trip: Memories of Vietnam is a book written by me, John Reeg. It is based on the life of a young man named Howard Carson, who joined the military in 1968 after graduating high school. He becomes a Marine and six months later is deployed to Vietnam. The United States military has a unique culture which can be difficult for some to adapt to. Howard adapts.

It is an unusual and excellent depiction of war and its drastic implications on the human soul. Howard and the men he serves with witness hell as they learn the gruesome reality of war.
Howard finishes his military obligation and begins college, where he is screamed at, spit on, pushed, and hit for serving his country. He tries to deal with the negatives, but his mental health suffers, and he becomes unsure about what he’s done and who he is. Howard sinks into terrible despair. Looking back on his time in the service, he is proud but finds it difficult to understand and accept the hateful feelings of others.
About the Author of My Senior Trip: Memories of Vietnam
John. D Reeg is a United States Marine Corps and veteran of the Vietnam War. He served with the 3rd Force Reconnaissance in 1969.
John started college at Ball State in 1973 and later graduated from Oklahoma State with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Health, and Recreation. For over two decades, John taught PE and coached gymnastics.
He currently lives in Dallas with his wife, Ginny, where he teaches health and physical fitness in senior facilities and nursing homes. His passion for writing continues as he studies and plans to write about America’s involvement in the Korean War.
